Winter Volksfest #13 is in the books! We would like to thank each and everyone of you for attending. YOU are the ones that make this event what it is!
Held at the NC State on Jan 26, 2019. The Expo Building was packed with new/used parts vendors and VW models of all kinds, in all different conditions. Pre-registration was on a roll with vendors and show cars, so much that we weren't sure how many others we could fit in there. So during our load in on Friday night, we set it up, so we could maximize all the space we could. Which worked out quite well as we had 81 Show cars and 35 vendor spaces, with just a bit of room to spare in the back.
Many of our sponsors were on hand with their products, like East Coast Sandrails out of Creedmoor, NC. Showing off one of their frames and with quite a few customers rails in front of their booths, to see what you could have. Jarrett Import was there as well from VA, with their thousands of new parts. Daily Dubs out of Columbus, GA came out with their full line of new and used parts. Bryan Mitchell of Motorwagen was there with his line up of Hazet and Vintage Speed items. A new vendor this year was Joe Witt of Mid Eastern. He will be starting a new adventure this upcoming March with an aircooled shop in Manning, SC. This shop will not only be for Aircooled, but also cater to other Vintage cars as well. Local Hicks VW out of Durham, brought out a freshly redone Beetle, a world traveled rally Beetle owned by a local couple and several customers showing off their rides as well. What we didn't seem to have a lot of was used parts vendors. This event as well as our events at the Dragstrips, are perfect times to clean out that garage and earn some cash for that next build.
The show car area showcased a little of anything you could imagine. Mike Kemp in his wild camo Rat Rod was a hit with the kids, as he was voted for the kids choice award. Some very nice campers in attendance, from a Vanagon Syncro to a 75 Sportsmobile, both with totally different themes, but both very useable for that next camping outing. Speaking of camping, Gene Hickman brought out his 91 Vanagon Westy with his full camping setup. Gene is an avid camper and also attends lots of events to show off his Westy. If you were thinking about getting something like this, Gene is your man. As he will show you all the ins and outs of the camper, let you climb inside and get comfortable, just so you can see how it feels. Bruce Paul once again wowed us this year, but this time with his custom 69 Convertible and walked away with the Best of Show award. We only awarded the Top 25 at this event, but there were so many others that deserved an award with their build. Take a look at our photos and see for yourself.
We would like to THANK YOU for attending! Without YOU these events can't happen. We hope that you had a good time, as that is what it is all about. Thanks to DJ Scott Sain for providing us some great music all day long, Micheal Hall for giving us some awesome custom Best of Show Trophies and going around the show area all day doing pinstriping on different VWs. And most of all Thanks to my Crew and Family for assisting in running the event.
Hope to see you at the next event! Click on the schedule link above for all the details!
